Landscape painting was established as a genre in Europe in the 15 century and expressed in religious subjects. By the time the oldest surviving ink paintings were executed, the Chinese art of pure landscape were established. History of landscape is therefore as old as the early civilization. The caves of Bhimbetka in India were painted as landscapes.
